A good friend and I had a delightful time at the "Matisse and the Sea" exhibition at the Saint Louis Art Museum. Henri Matisse (1869-1954) spent much of his life by the sea which inspired many of his artworks including this large scale textile, Oceania- the Sky. Also, there are some spectacular rarely lent cut-out nudes. Located in an alcove in the exhibit area, there is a film analyzing Matisse's famous painting, Bathers with a Turtle. New technology provides a deeper dive into the many revisions of the figures and the turtle he made. I was happy to see that I have something in common with Matisse. There is still time, the exhibit ends May 12. Here is an exhibition video clip from the St. Louis Museum.
