My new painting called Birthday Wishes, and it’s got that mix of quiet reflection and bright celebration that I love to explore. There’s a woman in a sunny yellow dress, holding a single candle above a pink cake, surrounded by a riot of colorful flowers—almost like the party popped right out of a garden. I wanted to capture that small, private moment of making a wish, the pause before the blow, with a glass of red wine tucked nearby for company. It’s a little scene that feels both festive and thoughtful, like the best kind of birthday surprise.
