SPIRIT OF THE TREES The Red Gate Gallery
January 16-April 12, 2026 Curated by Mel Watkin On May 16, 2025, an EF3 tornado struck St. Louis, leaving a deep physical and emotional impact. In addition to the loss of lives, homes, and infrastructure, thousands of trees across the region were damaged or uprooted. I am excited to have one of my artworks included in Spirit of the Trees - a group exhibit by 13 artists who are responding to this event and to the enduring symbolism of trees—as forces of life, renewal, knowledge, and loss. Red Gate Gallery is a platform for experimental and socially engaged art. Rooted in the community of Wydown United Church, it invites artists and audiences to explore new ideas, question assumptions, and imagine shared futures through creative practice. The church’s commitment to inquiry and inclusion shapes Red Gate as a space where art and dialogue intersect. 6501 Wydown Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63105 Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Friday, 10 am - 3 pm. 314-721-5060 ext. 1 |

"A Bird and Its Coffee"
Oil paint on birch board Wood floating frame, 9"x9" $500 Currently on view in Key West, FL JAG Gallery. A charming and whimsical oil painting that blends the everyday with the unexpected, evoking a sense of curiosity and quiet delight. An expressive oil painting featuring a bird perched on the edge of a cup filled with coffee that has a heart on its surface. The bird is rendered with bold, textured brush strokes in shades of black, gray, red, and blue, giving it a dynamic and lively appearance. The background comprises varying hues of blue, cream, lavender, and touches of orange, creating an impressionistic and vibrant atmosphere that emphasizes the scene's warmth and charm. The brushwork is thick and textured, adding depth and movement throughout the composition. |

Her new painting, "Blue Stripes is going Poolside at the Jag Gallery in Key West on August 9th from 5:30-7:30 pm. In *Blue Stripes*, she explores the quiet enigma held within a moment by the water’s edge—where skin meets sunlight and shadow, and a simple striped bikini becomes a portal to something more elusive. You don't want to miss this show! Come on down the water's chilled. |
