Kathy Corey is an award-winning artist and the founder of B Extraordinaire Gallery. Born in Key West, I am a descendant of seafarers, adventure seekers, and rapscallions lured by the ocean. My art is inspired by my conch heritage and nature’s glory, the vastness and roar of the ocean, and all creatures above and below. An ever-changing sky with its kaleidoscope of colors, clouds, and space takes my breath away.
I am traditionally trained using an old master's palette and technique with a touch of modernity. I am lucky to marvel at the sea, sand, and sky each day when I paint in Key West. Using oil and watercolor mediums, my paintings transport the viewer to revel in the splendor of our island home.
B Extraordinaire Gallery (BE) was a “pie in the sky” idea until the pandemic shut down in-person art making and sharing. Voila, a dream became reality and BE celebrated its fourth anniversary on April 1, 2024, and the original five artists have grown to 24 artists. B Extraordinaire is a place for artists to share and sell art. BE’s mission is to be an on-going source of inspiration to everyone who visits its pages. BE regularly shares news about upcoming shows and events in its BE blog along with insights from the artists who take us behind the scenes of their work, sharing their tips and stories about their creations. In addition to founding BE, Corey is on the Board of the Key West Art Center and the Board of the Greater St. Louis Artists Association, serves as a juror for the Missouri Athletic Club Galleries, and is a contributing blog writer for the Heartland Art Galleries in Kirkwood.
She earned a B.S. in Communication from Washington University and a MBA from Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. She managed to fit some studio art and art history into the curriculum and studied with amazing artists: Cindy Tower at Washington University in St. Louis and Victor Wang at Fontbonne University in St. Louis. She is thankful to so many fine artists, B.J Parker, Patricia Watwood, Maria Ojascastro, Nancy Van Ness and Catherine Loos for sharing their expertise, and for providing guidance and inspiration on her artistic journey. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries and private collections across the United States.
