Patsy Paschal Bio
I was raised in the South moving back and forth between Memphis, TN and Fort Worth, TX. Living in the South provided me with exposure to endearing southern cultures, wonderful memories and sweet southern accents. St. Louis has been my home since 1973 and I loved it from the beginning. Until 1999, I lived in the County (Affton, Kirkwood) then moved to Holly Hills. Ten years ago, I moved to the Shaw Neighborhood and love it; this is my home forever.
My youthful ambition was to become a concert pianist. This was my passion since I was 5; I studied off and on for 15 years with the best teachers. However, my life brought me four beautiful children and employment in the legal field and my desire to play the piano waned. In its place, way down deep in my heart, I felt the strings pulling me to paint.
The opportunity to explore painting finally came after I retired. It was right before Covid, so I was very happy to stay indoors and paint away! Now over two years later and having run out of space to hang my art, I decided to grow and possibly let go of some paintings so I could paint more!
My inspiration comes from viewing others’ art, of course, watching artists paint, educating myself with the help of tutorials and books and then just diving in with the support of friends and family who are so encouraging. It is a habit of mine to look at my surroundings and paint it in my head. I do believe I have an artist’s eye.
Truly I would love to play the piano again at least as half as good as I did before. The problem with that is I could never give up painting. So that would be two sit-down hobbies and I’m afraid I would never get exercise.
I hope to become acquainted with other artists in St. Louis – this is a huge step to grow and learn from others.
