Congratulations artists! Thank you for participating in the BEST DAY National Art Exhibition juried by Virginia Becker and Giselle Obermeier. This show is full of happy moments, that are sure to make you smile. People richly present in nature, doing yoga, watching a solar eclipse, walking a wooded path, or relaxing by the ocean. There are children of all ages, one playing with their shadow, another walking through a garden of balloons, and two young captains steering their ship through rough waters. You will find amazing flowers, a comfy chair and even a rollercoaster ride. We invite you to join us in these happy places.
The jurors for the BEST DAY show were extremely impressed with all the works in the exhibition, and found three pieces in particular that best fit the theme of the exhibit. .
We awarded first place to Sail Away by Tomi Hayes. San Diego artist, Tomi Hayes enjoys experimenting with many mediums, Recently, she’s been painting in oil and this painting captured the juror's attention. Come and sail away into the dazzling light sparkling over the ocean beneath the wispy clouds and skies of blue.
Second place was awarded to Libby Scobee’s Memory 5. Libby's current work evolved from the connection between memory and heirlooms. Looking specifically at objects that are saved and passed down, she investigates how memories are inherited through artifacts collected through the generations, such as fine china and lace fabrics used for special occasions. These physical objects become placeholders for the intangible memories that can grow and change over time, indicating the idea of a memory but not revealing the full story. This continuation builds a connection between the objects, memory, and individuals transforming them into metaphors of the past and of the parts of people that construct my own identity.
Third place was given to The Boys in Bermuda, 1964 by Douglas Simes. This exquisite drawing is part of a series of "Memory Drawings," pieces that expanded and reimagined images from snapshots taken by his father in the 1950s and 1960s with his beloved Polaroid camera. He has two other drawings from the Memory Drawings series included in the exhibit.
