Shelley Loring Artist Statement
Shelley Loring has always loved art! As a child her grandmother, who was a novice artist and a docent for the Chicago Art Institute, introduced her to the great masters, da Vinci, Rembrandt, Renoir, and Degas and gave Shelley her first set of oil pastels. Little did she know that Shelley would begin a lifelong fascination with color and light.
Shelley’s art exploration began as she explored making stained glass, marrying the color and texture of glass to her designs in an effort create something that would bring joy to herself and others. Even as she explores other mediums of expression such as photography, drawing, oil painting, and pastels, Shelley has never strayed from her first love, the dance of color and light. After retiring from a successful career in human resources, Shelley, a perpetual student, returned to school to study drawing and painting, initially at Southwestern Illinois College and currently at Fontbonne University under Victor Wang and Tim Liddy. Shelley is so grateful to God for the opportunities He has provided her to learn from her instructors and fellow students and for the love and encouragement of friends and family especially her husband, Joe, without whom this would all be meaningless.
