Dog - Acrylic and graphite on wood panel
One of my mentors once said you should title your work before you start painting, which according to him, gives you a direction in which to begin. Made sense to me at the time. But after a bit of thought and experience, I decided that wasn't working for me. Dog is a perfect example.
Picking my colors for the background, all I knew at the start was I wanted a nice autumn blend of color. Once I'd applied the background to my liking, I decided to go with basic black and white to really make a statement atop the fall color. Raw was in the forefront of my mind when I dipped my worn bristled brush in heavy white, then black paint. Nothing too smooth for this. I needed the next two steps to stand out, which they do.
