As I've mentioned, I love working on a firm surface like these hardboard panels. It allows me to be much more aggressive in application and removal of paints and inks. I start with a base of a strong dark background color - in this case raw umber with a touch of black mixed in. Then I apply various scrapes and scratches. When white is painted on, I work it to be both transparent and opaque. Semi transparent golds added on top of that along with black and gray marks add drama, and of course the shades of blue draw the eye towards the mid to upper left.
A touch of a raw industrial feel give this (and the four in this series) a worn look that I'm typically drawn to.
