Within The Forest, 12"x12", metal print of encaustic/mixed media painting
This image (Within The Forest) was created by using the ancient process of encaustic painting which can be traced back to the Greeks and Egyptians. Before applying wax medium, Cathy secured woven watercolor paper to a rigid, porous surface. Cathy then added several layers of hot wax medium over the paper. She then uses a propane torch and/or electric heat gun to fuse each layer of wax medium onto the board. The first two layers are usually clear wax medium. Pigment (color) is added to subsequent layers. Each layer is lightly fused together.
After the painting cures, Cathy gently buffs it to bring up the lustor of the wax.
