A good friend and I had a delightful time at the "Matisse and the Sea" exhibition at the Saint Louis Art Museum. Henri Matisse (1869-1954) spent much of his life by the sea which inspired many of his artworks including this large scale textile, Oceania- the Sky. Also, there are some spectacular rarely lent cut-out nudes. Located in an alcove in the exhibit area, there is a film analyzing Matisse's famous painting, Bathers with a Turtle. New technology provides a deeper dive into the many revisions of the figures and the turtle he made. I was happy to see that I have something in common with Matisse. Congratulations to Michael LaRue. He has 5 photographs an art show at the Pacific, Mo Public Library. The library is featuring 15 more of his photographs in the main display case across from the circulation desk. Michael's wonderful images that depict St. Louis will be on display until the end of February.
