B Extraordinaire artist, Mary Beth Tipton is featured in the St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper article, Made in St. Louis: Religion Teacher Rediscovered her love of painting by Pat Eby, Special to the Post-Dispatch, Jun 4, 2021.
Eby writes, "Tipton changed careers after 24 years teaching art in the classroom. She started her new career as director of religious education at the Church of St. Michael and St. George in Clayton in July 2019. Then the pandemic hit. Although she worked remotely with her students in religious education classes, Tipton made good use of her newly found spare time. She returned to painting, created mixed-media pieces and ventured into marketing her work online, in shops and at local art fairs." Learn more about Mary Beth on her gallery pages where she describes her art as "both playful and dark inspired by the familiar and domestic." In her most recent work she explores layers of texture and pattern. Abstract components recede, advance and mingle with figurative expressions. These aspects can be seen in her painting below, The Better Angels of our Nature, mixed media.
